If considering diagnosis of bacterial endocarditis, refer to ophthalmologist for detection of occlusive retinopathy, although may have causes other than endocarditis
Retinal abnormalities disappear if endocarditis effectively treated Vision impaired only if large retinal areas infarcted or infected
