- Medications that inhibit bone resorption and are used to prevent osteoporosis
- Most commonly used medications: pamidronate, alendronate, risedronate
- Most common ophthalmic side effects: acute conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis, orbital myositis, episcleritis, scleritis within days to weeks of starting medication
- Eye pain
- Blurred and double vision
- Red eye
- Lid swelling
- Proptosis
- Anticipate these ophthalmic manifestations
- Refer to ophthalmologist urgently

- Treatment with topical or oral corticosteroid or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) often needed to hasten relief
