About the Author

Jonathan D. Trobe, MD

Jonathan D. Trobe, MD, the author of THE EYES HAVE IT, is emeritus professor of ophthalmology, neurology, and neurosurgery at the University of Michigan.  The former director of the ophthalmology inpatient consultation service and the neuro-ophthalmology division, he occupies the Musson Research Professorship in Neuro-Ophthalmology. 

Board-certified in ophthalmology and neurology in the United States, he is a past editor of the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, the official journal of the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society.  He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, covering a wide range of subjects.

He has authored the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s sponsored book entitled THE PHYSICIANS GUIDE TO EYE CARE, as well as THE FIELD GUIDE TO THE EYES, RAPID DIAGNOSIS IN NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY, and CLINICAL DECISIONS IN NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY. 

Dr. Trobe holds numerous teaching awards, including the Kaiser Permanente Award For Excellence in Clinical Teaching from the University of Michigan.  His other teaching website, NEURO-OPHTHALMOLOGY AT YOUR FINGERTIPS is also widely used across the world. 

In an academic career that has spanned over 50 years, he has helped to train over 500 resident physicians and over 40 neuro-ophthalmology fellows.
