Case 66 Diagnosis

Irvine-Gass syndrome (cystoid macular edema after cataract surgery)

Differential Diagnosis

  • Cystoid macular edema from other causes such as diabetes mellitus, branch retinal vein occlusion, uveitis, or retinitis pigmentosa
  • Juvenile retinoschisis: lacks late leakage on fluorescein angiogram
  • Goldmann-Favre disease: lacks late fluorescein leakage
  • Retinitis pigmentosa (some forms): lacks late fluorescein leakage
