Case 160 Diagnosis

Endogenous endophthalmitis secondary to liver abscesses. Cultures revealed that the infecting organism was a Klebsiella species

Differential Diagnosis and associated risk factors for different causes of endogenous endophthalmitis

  • Candida: systemic candidiasis, immunosupression
  • Aspergillus: immunosuppression, IV drug abuse
  • Fusarium: surgical wounds
  • Cryptococcus: AIDS, central nervous system cryptococcus
  • Staphalococcus aureus: IV drug abuse
  • Streptococcus: endocarditis
  • Gram-negative bacilli: enteric infections, urosepsis
