Case 114 Teaching Points

  • Clinically apparent retinal telangiectasia and ectasia of capillary bed confined to juxtafoveal region
  • Three types
    • 1A:  Unilateral, congenital, minimal vision loss, treatment is focal laser photocoagulation
    • 1B:  Unilateral, acquired, minimal vision loss, treatment is focal laser photocoagulation
    • 2:  Most common type, bilateral, right-angled venules with perivascular hyperpigmentation, usually minimal vision loss, no treatment recommended
    • 3: Bilateral, can have minimal vision loss to legal blindness secondary to juxtafoveal capillary obliteration, no treatment recommended
