After Surgery
Initial Care
- You will be wheeled to the Outpatient Surgery Unit following surgery. This is where you will recover.
- The nurse will check your vital signs periodically.
- You will be offered a light snack.
- You will be provided with warm blankets.
- The person(s) who accompanied you will be notified when your surgery has been completed. Your surgeon will speak directly with this person(s) after surgery. One adult may stay with you in the outpatient unit. Children under the age of 16 will not be allowed in the preoperative and recovery areas.
- If you have been given general anesthesia, you will wake up in the recovery room and may have an oxygen mask over your nose and mouth.
- If you have been given general anesthesia or IV sedation, you may not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol or make any legal decisions for 24 hours.
