Seminar offers advice on living with macular degeneration
Ann ArborMacular degeneration is an eye disease that causes the gradual loss of central vision. But through a combination of techniques and optical devices, people who have macular degeneration can remain independent and continue many of their daily activities. The University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center will present a free seminar, "Living with Macular Degeneration," Friday, May 17, 2:003:30 p.m., at the U-M Brighton Health Center, 8001 Challis Road, Brighton.
Adrienne L. West, M.D., Kellogg ophthalmologist, will describe the different types of macular degeneration and the progression of the disorder. Because most people with macular degeneration still have the use of their peripheral vision, Dr. West will explain techniques for making the most of that remaining vision. She will also talk about helpful devices, such as special magnifying glasses and large print monitors, designed to help people read, watch television, write, and carry out other activities.
For more information about the seminar, call the U-M Kellogg Eye Center in Brighton at 810-227-2357.
